Description:
The Nunavik Marine Region Planning Commission (NMRPC) was recently established under the new Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement (NILCA) to guide the development of planning policies, priorities and objectives in the Nunavik Marine Region. • The NMRPC is made up of 5 members (2 nominated by Makivik, and 1 each recommended by the Government of Nunavut and the Government of Canada), and a Chairperson. The Nunavik Marine Region Impact Review Board (NMRIRB) was also recently established under the new Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement to review the eco-systemic and socio-economic impacts of project proposals in the Nunavik Marine Region. • The NMRIRB is also made up of 5 members (2 nominated by Makivik, 1 appointed by the Government of Nunavut and 1 appointed by the Government of Canada), and a Chairperson. The offices and staff of the NMRPC and the NMRIRB are shared and co-located in the community of Kuujjuaq, Quebec.
